Having just seen Diana in concert for the first time (as the opening act to Tony Bennett) I was already fully under the spell of this extraordinary performer when this concert video came out. I immediately acquired it and was(am still) blown away by the sensual visual and aural bath in which I found myself immersed. The additional treat of seeing Ms. Krall performing with my favorite conductor/arranger of pop and jazz music history, Claus Ogerman, was the biggest surprise and another overwhelmingly emotional addition to the acquisition. The musical song selection is perfect and the performances, videographic editing, and sound captivation are all extraordinary. I love the way Diana celebrates the performances of each and every one of her collaborators: especially M. Ogerman, drummer Jeff Hamilton, guitarist Anthony Wilson, bassist John Clayton, and percussionist Paulinho da Costa. What amazed me even more is how well the video captures Diana's unique and extraordinary gift for staring into another universe as she gets ready, with each and every moment, to receive the next note, the next pitch, the next inflection in her voice or fingers (on the piano keys); every moment watching her perform is like watching a human conduit directly connected and channelling her musical expressions from somewhere "else." Amazing! This is the single biggest factor that connected me to her music, to her performance: the gift of being allowed, of being privvy to the event of her magical/mystical connection to a Place of Infinite Possibilities. Nailed it! Definitely one of the very best Concert Videos I've ever had the privilege of seeing.
