Born in the town of Beauport near Quebec City, self-taught bassist and Effendi Records president, Alain Bédard began his musical career in the eighties. He has since accompanied various Quebec ensembles, including Effendi JazzLab, Lapon Balèze, Carole Therrien, Dadjé (Quebecois and Senegalese musicians) B.C.J.S Quartet, Michel Lambert, Guadeloupean Frank Souriant, Thuryn Von Pranke trio, Ogane Song and many others. He has participated in a number of high-profile projects with several of these ensembles, including numerous appearances at virtually every international jazz festival in Canada, as well as many in France (JVC Jazz Festival in Paris, Nantes Jazz Festival, Jazz entre les deux Tours in la Rochelle, Nancy Jazz Festival, Vienne Jazz Festival), and Belgium (Ciney and Brussels Jazz Festivals). Outside the realm of jazz, he has appeared at the Festival de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville and the Festival d’été de Québec. In 1994 he began studying classical double bass with Marc Denis
