ANDREW DRURY is a drummer/composer whose work embraces the continuum from tradition to exploration. A long time student of the legendary drummer Ed Blackwell, Drury is known for his lyrical and propulsive drumming, distinctive compositional voice, inventive use of extended techniques, and a live performance energy that is primal, refined, and visually captivating. Performing in Jazz, Free Improvisation, and idioms spanning New Music, Post-Rock, and other genres, Drury has performed in 25 countries and on over 50 recordings.
Drury’s solo work employs a single floor tom or tympani and extreme extended wind and friction techniques that transform the drum into a generator of frequencies, textures, difference tones, and multiphonics akin to electronic music, and which stretch the definition of "percussion" up to and beyond its limits.
