With his first solo album in 1979 Andy Narell took the steelpan out of the steelband and brought it into the jazz band, and with every recording and concert since, he has explored the possibilities and expanded the role of the pan in contemporary music.
2014 marks the release of Narell’s latest album of steel band music ‘Oui ma Chérie!’ featuring Mike Stern, Etienne Charles, Relator, Thomas Dyani, Inor Sotolongo, Gregory Louis, and Narell playing all the pans.
In 2013 Andy collaborated with Kwame Ryan and the Bordeaux Symphony for a concert featuring his jazz quintet (featuring Janysett McPherson, Thierry Fanfant, Inor Sotolongo, and Gregory Louis) and the orchestra. Orchestral arrangements were by Isaac Narell.
