ANDY WHEELOCK picture
Born in Michigan in 1990, Wheelock began drumming in church at 3 under the tutelage of his dad. As a kid, Wheelock honed his craft performing with local bands while learning other instruments in school. Wheelock attended Central Michigan University studying classical percussion with Andrew Spencer, graduating in 2013 with a BME. A MM and DMA in Jazz followed from the University of Illinois where he studied with Joel Spencer, William Moersch, and Ricardo Flores. Wheelock has also studied under Jeff Hamilton, SK Kakraba, Billy Hart, Keith Hall, Jorge Alabe, and Richie Gajete. \n\nWheelocks love of world music has inspired him from early on with Afro-Latin Jazz, odd meters of Serbian folk music, Samba and Candomblé of Brazil, Batá drumming, Sabar drumming, Mbira music, and the Gyil of Ghana.
