Angie Wells grew up in a home filled with great music. Her mother sang and played gospel piano. Her father was a devoted jazz and blues fan. The music of Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Nancy Wilson, Joe Williams, Muddy Waters and B.B. King to name a few could be heard on any day in her childhood home. When she was just five years of age Count Basie came to her school and played for her kindergarten class. The seed was planted.
Wells began her singing career in an intimate little supper club in St. Germain des Pres in Paris when she joined the trio playing that night for a few tunes. The audience's explosive applause encouraged her to begin training to sing professionally. She won the New Talent Competition at the final Sweet n' Hot Jazz Festival in Los Angeles
