Bob Wilber formed the Bechet Legacy in 1980 to pay tribute to his former teacher the great soprano saxophonist Sidney Bechet. Wilber, who used to sound like Bechet on soprano and clarinet but has long since developed his own sound, heads a fine sextet also including trumpeter Glenn Zottola, pianist Mark Shane, guitarist Chris Flory, bassist Phil Flanigan and drummer Chuck Riggs on a set of tunes associated with Bechet. Pug Horton takes vocals on three songs (in the style of Eva Taylor) and the final two numbers ("Kansas City Man" and "China Boy") find Wilber and Zottola interacting with fire in a sparse quartet with Flory and Flanigan.
