Daniel Karlsson was born in 1973 in Kristinehamn, a Swedish town on the Vänern Lake, in the Värmland county. In 1992 he moved to Skurup, in the county of Skåne, to attend the local musical High School, where he studied piano and jazz full-time. Two years after he was accepted by the Royal Music Academy (Kungliga Musikhögskolan) in Stockholm, where he followed a program dedicated to the Afro-American musical tradition. Daniel studied there for 4 years with Alvaro Is Rojas and Ove Lundin. In Stockholm, he quickly established himself in the jazz world and became member of the Fredrik Noren Band (FNB) since 1995. FNB is often called the Swedish Art Blakey, as it is where many young Swedish talented musician begun their path, such as Esbjörn Svensson, Dan Berglund, Joakim Milder, Christian Spering, Jonas Kullhammar and many others.
