Mississippi-born singer who combines her love of jazz and traditional standards with an appreciation of the whole of pop music.
A vocalist who puts a soulful but polished spin on classic jazz and pop melodies, Deborah Silver was born and raised in Indianola, Mississippi. Growing up in the Deep South, Deborah grew to appreciate all kinds of music, including pop, rock, jazz, standards, R&B, and country. Her mother was an opera singer who also worked as a vocal coach on the side. While Silver sang in choir when she was in high school, she struggled with shyness and tried to remain inconspicuous when she performed. After enrolling at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, Silver developed greater confidence and went on to appear in student theater productions, where her passion for singing took hold.
