Désir Fiorini is the meeting between Haitian singer Renette Désir and Belgian piano player Fabian Fiorini. In their first show, they explore the complex and ambiguous relationships established between Africa and the Americas, after the transatlantic Slave Trade. The duet comes face-to-face with the work of artists such as Duke Ellington, Neil Young, Charles Mingus, Max Roach and Caetano Veloso, underpinned by Vodou rhythms. They also reinvent classic Haitian songs like Pos Machan. Moving between all these musical paths, they draw inspiration from the powerful texts by Haïtian poets like Jacques Roumain and Roussan Camille. The result is at the same time crafted in every detail and entirely free, intimate and wild.
