The avant-jazz/improvised music scene is very much alive in Europe. One superlative example is this new quartet project reuniting two French and two Portuguese representatives of a new generation of astonishing creative musicians. The name Deux Maisons (Two Houses, in English) derives from that double nationality inside the European Community. From France we have the brothers Theo and Valentin Ceccaldi (Theo Ceccaldi Trio, Roberto Negro's La Scala, Toons), former Joelle Leandre students who have already marked their names in the most intriguing developments concerning the practice of improvisation. Already considered the heir of the violin lineage born with Stephane Grapelli and continued by Jean-Luc Ponty and Dominique Pifarely, Theo plays with figures like Regis Huby, Guillaume Roy and Hans Ludemann and cellist Valentin has partnerships with Vincent Courtois, Pascal Contet and Mederic Collignon.
