Emmanuel Bex was born in 1959, in Caen, into a family of musicians. He was just 13-years old when he won his first piano prize. He opted initially for a classical training: Gold Medal for chamber music, 1st Prize in specialist music theory, 1st Prize for bassoon. Then came two pivotal meetings, first with Bernard Lubat, then Eddy Louiss; the Hammond organ was henceforth his instrument of choice. In 1984, he won a Sacem Prize for composition. He played concert after concert, recorded albums and toured internationally (with Barney Willen, Babick Reinhardt and Christian Escoudé, or in the company of musicians such as Philip Catherine, Aldo Romano and Louis Winsberg). The Academie du Jazz awarded him the Prix Django Reinhardt in 1995.
