Espen Berg, born June 30th 1983 in Hamar, is a Norwegian pianist and composer. He currently resides in Trondheim, where he attained a master’s degree after studying at NTNU – Norwegian University of Science and Technology’s highly acknowledged jazz department.
Espen has travelled around the world playing concerts since 2003. He was awarded Norway’s biggest music award, “JazZtipendiatet”, in 2016, resulting in a commissioned work for the widely recognized Trondheim Jazz Orchestra – featuring soloists as Eirik Hegdal, Ole Morten Vågan and Ola Kvernberg. Espen has participated on numerous albums, and worked with artists such as Seamus Blake, Anders Jormin, Silje Nergaard, Ole Mathisen, Mathias Eick, Marius Neset, Mats Eilertsen, Per Jørgensen, Airelle Besson, Hildegunn Øiseth, Susanne Lundeng, Cantus, Tore Johansen, Jovan Pavlovic and Maher Mahmoud.
Espen was appointed to NTNU AMBASSADOR together with his trio in 2016. He receives government grants from Arts Council Norway 2016-2018, and was awarded with scholarships
