A native of Mie Prefecture (near Nagoya), Yoshihito started playing drums at age ten. After graduating high school he moved to Tokyo and studied with Hidefumi Toki and Nobuyoshi Ino at Musashino Academy of Music. As he worked himself into the Tokyo jazz scene, he distinguished himself with the depth of his groove and his endless reservoir of energy, in the process becoming one of the most sought-after drummers in Japan. In addition to leading his own groups, he has worked with top jazz aritsts including Lee Konitz and Roland Hanna, and is a fixture in many of the top jazz groups in Japan, including those of Terumasa Hino and Fumio Karashima
