The European Movement Jazz Orchestra was conceived by the German music council in the Spring of 2007 with the idea of being the cultural ambassador of Germany, Portugal and Slovenia during the time of their presidency of the European council.
Out of the original concept of uniting young musicians from these three countries in a big band, sprung a unique project which, after three European tours with different guest conductors, has developed a strong and unmistakable ensemble sound which is all their own.
The different personalities of each member of the orchestra – all of them outstanding young musicians on the European jazz scene – help to create a symbiosis of the varied musical traditions of their homelands. This artistic diversity and the unifying thought of presenting modern European jazz music on a high level is the main reason for the remarkably fresh sound of the European Movement Jazz Orchestra.
