Ivan Baryshnikov is a gifted tenor saxophonist and composer, a native of Moscow who left to pursue his Masters at Prince Clause Conservatoire in Groningen, The Netherlands. During an exchange semester spent in New York, he recorded his debut album Journey, a vivid musical account of his life experience as a transplant in two countries, a new father and an evolving artist. The album features top-tier musicians Marko Churnchetz on piano/keyboard, Ryan Berg on bass and Samvel Sarkisyan on drums, with guest vocalists Hiske Oosterwijk and Mark Evich.
After years of immersion in music as well as dance, Baryshnikov chose to focus on saxophone at age 14. Later, in becoming a professional musician, he took a bold course independent of family tradition: he hails from a long line of engineers and had intended to be an engineer himself.
