Pianist, keyboardist, composer and musical director Julie Lamontagne has followed a fascinating career path and gained an exceptional amount of experience along the way. Possessing a solid classical background, and winner of numerous awards (including a First Prize at the prestigious Canadian Music Competition at the age of thirteen), she decided early on to explore other musical styles. Having studied flute, saxophone, and Latin percussion, Julie decided nonetheless to return to her first love, the piano, immersing herself with passion into the world of jazz. Inspired initially by great Montreal jazz pianists such as Oliver Jones, Lorraine Desmarais, André White and Jan Jarczyk, Julie went on to hone her considerable talents in New York City, where she studied with Garry Dial and Fred Hersch.
