LEEANN LEDGERWOOD picture
Born in Warren, Ohio, LeeAnn Ledgerwood began studying piano at the age of four. She received intensive classical training which included four years of study with renowned classical pianist Grant Johanessen. LeeAnn pursued classical studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music. As she matured, her musical interests were completely absorbed by improvisation. Her need to study this lead her to North Texas State University and finally to Berklee college of music in Boston. Her fellow students at that time included Branford Marsalis, Terrence Blanchard. They were a close knit group who shared classes, ensembles and played sessions and local gigs most every weekend in the Boston area. During this time, LeeAnn had been invited to New York city by Marian McPartland. Ms. McPartland seriously encouraged LeeAnn to pursue a career in jazz. LeeAnn took her advice to heart and planned for a life in jazz.
