Maggie is the 9th of 12 children and grew up in Muskegon, Mi., where her parents, Martha and Ed Herron, owned a grocery store. The entire family worked shifts at the store stocking shelves, cleaning shop and running the cash register. Home was filled with siblings practicing on musical instruments, listening to Sinatra, pop and rock of the 50's and 60's while Maggie immersed herself in classical music. Maggie's mother and her oldest sister, Mary, both mentored her in music study that started with private lessons when she was 6 years old Within 10 years Maggie was the full time church organist, had won the first place competition to perform Beethoven's 2nd piano concerto with the Muskegon Symphony Orchestra and a scholarship to the summer music program at Interlochen. Maggie was in the top five finalists there for the piano concerto competition. As a young woman she had long engagements
