Maya Hatch was exposed to music the very moment her mother gave birth to her on August 18, 1985. As the emergency room in Olympia, Washington filled up with the exquisite sounds of Stevie Wonder (from the cassette player), perhaps it was fated that Maya would follow in his footsteps with the dream of singing for the happiness of humanity. Her mixed background of Japanese on her mother’s side and Caucasian-American (English, German, Scottish) on her father’s side has helped her see the importance of bridging cultures; Maya sees music as the perfect medium to bring people together. Maya began singing at the age of eight when she joined the Sadako Peace Choir, a multi-cultural children’s choir in her home town Seattle, Washington.
