As a reed player and band leader, multi-instrumentalist Michael Moss has played with a large eclectic group of musicians including Sam Rivers, Dave Liebman, Bobby Moses, Richie Beirach, Paul Bley, Badal Roy, George Brown, Ben Sidran, Dave Burrell, Michal Urbaniak and William Parker, Larry Roland, Waldron Ricks, Mike Wimberley, Billy Stein, Charles Downs (Rashid Bakr), Ras Moshe, Jackson Krall, Steve Cohn and Chuck Fertal. These reflect his strong interest in musical traditions from around the world. Moss traveled to India and Sri Lanka where he worked with the finest musicians. He has studied music of the Middle East, India, Thailand, East Africa, Ireland and Europe to work them into the jazz tradition of John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Miles Davis, and Cecil Taylor, all in an effort to truly understand World Music.
