Award-winning music critic and journalist Tom Moon—author of The New York Times bestseller 1000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die (Workman Publishing)—steps out from behind the critic’s desk for his first recording with Moon Hotel Lounge Project. Into the Ojalá, produced by Fractals guitarist Kevin Hanson, arrives January 11 on Frosty Cordial Records.
The instrumental project features nine of Moon’s original compositions and a cover of the gospel standard “Rock of Ages.” Workshopping his tunes with several Philadelphia jazz luminaries, Moon developed a sound that draws on jazz, bossa nova and lounge music. He then enlisted artists whose music he’d written about years before, including members of the fast-rising band the Fractals.
