Featuring critically-acclaimed young musicians, Mosaic combines elements of contemporary jazz and chamber music in an exciting but accessible way. Expansive writing is balanced with intense improvisation, all of which contributes to the thoughtful narrative of the compositions. The unusual line-up creates a surprisingly intimate and yet powerful sound world, distinct from most other groups currently on the scene. The band’s repertoire consists of original music composed by Ralph, and is inspired by a wide variety of sources, from artist Paul Klee to Aldershot Town Football Club. Musical influences include Steve Reich and Steve Martland as well as Kenny Wheeler. Vince Mendoza, Gil Evans and Marius Neset. Mosaic have played some of London’s most popular jazz venues including the Vortex and the 606 Club, as well as appearing in the 2015 London Jazz Festival.
