Nishla Smith is an Australia-born, Manchester-based singer, writer and storyteller. Her unique musical sensibility, along with a preoccupation with narrative, is recurrent throughout a diverse array of musical projects.
Her debut album Friends with Monsters confirms Smith as a major new vocal talent in the UK, and sees the vocalist’s affinity for inventive narrative extended over the span of a full album.
Smith’s recent performing has seen her collaborate with a range of classical and jazz organisations in the UK, including Opera North, City Music Foundation, Leeds Playhouse, Britten Pears Arts, Manchester Collective and Jazz North. She works closely with Ulita, a cross-disciplinary arts collective focused on creating music-driven theatre pieces alongside pianist Tom Harris and visual artist Luca Shaw.
