Ovary Lodge was a progressive rock/jazz trio (and later quartet) founded by Keith Tippett (piano, zither), Roy Babbington (upright bass), and Frank Perry (percussion) in 1973 in the wake of Tippett's work with the Centipede Orchestra. With Robert Fripp serving as producer, they cut an album for RCA's U.K. division that was comprised of spontaneous free-form acoustic jazz-rock; in terms of sound, it fit in midway between King Crimson's Lizard album and the Larks' Tongues in Aspic album. A couple of years later, with Harry Miller replacing Babbington on bass and Tippett's singer wife Julie Tippett (the former Julie Driscoll of Brian Auger & the Trinity fame) added to the line-up, they cut a second and final LP. The group's first album was reissued by the Voiceprint label on CD in the spring of 2000.
