PACIFIC HARP PROJECT is dedicated to exploring new realms of music for harp and rhythm section through the combining of traditional harp repertoire with improvisation, jazz, pop, and original compositions. The group consists of Megan Bledsoe Ward (harp), Noel Okimoto (vibraphone), Jon Hawes (bass), and Allan Ward (drums). Pacific Harp Project is an outgrowth of my doctoral dissertation, The Harp in Jazz and American Pop Music. I’ve always loved jazz, and I’ve always wanted to play jazz on the harp. But the way the harp is constructed makes it difficult to apply a lot of jazz repertoire to the instrument.
