Richard was born in the small town of Adrian, Michigan, to a musical family where nearly everyone played a musical instrument. Starting on the cornet when in elementary school, he switched to trumpet in high school and started performing throughout the area.
He has performed everything from jazz, to rock, classical, soul, and blues with groups in the Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan area, and in and around Toledo,Ohio. Richard now lives and performs out of the Washington DC area.
Richard was diagnosed with Primary Amyloidosis in June 2007 at the Cleveland Clinic. Amyloidosis is a rare, progressive, debilitating and fatal disease for which there is currently no cure. He dedicated himself to producing and recording his first album as the leader of a jazz group, and has pledged to contribute a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each CD to raise public awareness of this devastating disease and to
