Pianist Russell Schmidt is the Education Coordinator of Music Serving the Word (MSW) Ministries in Carefree, Arizona.
Russell’s main focus at MSW is the creation of new educational curricula, to be used both locally and nationally, for the continued growth and development of church musicians.
Previously, Russell held positions as the Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Utah, together with faculty appointments at Bowling Green State University, Northern Arizona University, and the Eastman School of Music in New York.
As a jazz pianist, Schmidt has been privileged to perform with such artists as Carl Allen, Gerry Mulligan, Arturo Sandoval, and Clark Terry.
Additionally, Russell has served as a soloist with more than 30 professional orchestras, including the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center and the San Francisco Symphony.
