Sasha Berliner (1998-Present) is one of the up-and-coming figures in today’s jazz scene. Born in San Francisco, she first approached music from behind a rock drum kit before permanently transitioning to vibraphone. As a student of acclaimed vibraphonist Stefon Harris, she attended the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and later received the LetterOne “Rising Star” Jazz Award, granting her the opportunity to headline numerous jazz festivals across the U.S. and Canada. She’s shared the bandstand with names such as Tyshawn Sorey, Christian McBride, Quincy Davis, Nicholas Payton, and Marcus Gilmore. Her debut album as a bandleader, Azalea (2019), was subsequently nominated for a JazzTimes 2019 Readers’ Poll “Best New Release”, and employs digital effects, speech samples, and strings to produce a highly alternative jazz style.
