SHOGUN ORCHESTRA delight in mixing unusual influences from around the globe. Aside from Caribbean music they have explored African forms such as Afro-beat, Highlife and Ethio-Jazz whilst Jennifer Zea brings to the group a distinctive South-American salsa flavour.
SHOGUN ORCHESTRA are a Wellington super-group originally formed to perform a charity concert at the San Francisco Bathhouse at the time of the Haitian earthquake in 2010. Composer and arranger Lucien Johnson had spent three months in Haiti working in a theatre production and so had a direct connection with the tragic events. The band were enthralled by the music, a mixture of Haitian traditional songs and original music by Johnson and so decided to record an album on Economy Records.
