Simon initially studied piano, composition, French Horn and conducting as a Junior Exhibitioner at Trinity College of Music in London before reading music at the University of Bristol where he was awarded a Frist Class honors degree in 1997. In 1998 he achieved a Masters in Composition for Television, Theater & Film before traveling the globe as a performer, band leader and arranger in predominantly pop and jazz idioms. He took up his current teaching positions in 2005.
Simon is signed to independent jazz record label ’33 Jazz’. His 6-piece London/U.K based ‘Simon Lasky Group’ perform and record exclusively original compositions by Simon. Released in April 2015, ‘Story Inside’ is the debut album from the new band: The musical palette of flugelhorn, piano, electric and acoustic guitars, electric and fretless bass, prominent percussion (including tabla and congas) and drum kit takes conceptual and idiomatic inspiration from the Pat Metheny Group, saxophonist Andy
