Tom Barman, known predominantly for his work as the frontman for dEUS, has embarked on a decidedly different topic in the way of TaxiWars.
A longtime jazz fan, he put together a band with saxophonist Robin Verheyen, bassist Nicolas Thys and drummer Antoine Pierrre, and releasing their debut album which was performed in tiny jazz venues and larger clubs around Europe.
One of TaxiWars’s most ardent fans is Ashley Kahn, New York concert promotor, jazz educator, and one of the most influential jazz writers on the planet: "I already knew dEUS, but I love TaxiWars. They combine lyrics, poetry and jazz with a rock intensity – it reminds me of New York’s answer to hip-hop in the late eighties.
"They are not replicating it; they are drawing from that same kind of energy. It’s great."
