Ted Nash was born in Boston, Massachusetts on Oct. 31, 1922. His brother Dick Nash became a famous trombonist. He first played at Club 15 and when drafted was labeled 4F because of his back. In 1944 Ted joined Les Brown's Band of Renown. He was met at Union Station by Butch Stone, the band's baritone saxophonist. Ted was to fill in for John Hays, a friend of Ted, for only two weeks. John was going to play for Hal McIntyre. Les like Ted so much that he kept Ted on and left John go because of John's drinking. John never spoke to Ted again. Ted played with the Band of Renown for 2.5 years. Ted was known to be adventurous. On one of the band’s tours, they were enroute to Heshey, PA by train.
