The Ambush Party is aptly named indeed. As in an ambush, the band lies in wait for the listener, and takes him by surprise or sends him off in the wrong direction. After all, predictability is the death of all good improvised music. The band has opted to follow in the footsteps of the rich Dutch tradition of Instant Composing: no random free improvisation, but listening and reacting and thus building a musical construction in a way that makes sense. The group takes its inspiration from such diverse genres as noise, tango, opera, drum 'n' bass and jazz. Take for instance Natalio Sued. The Argentinean tenor saxophonist can boast of a beautiful, old-fashioned sound, which bears comparison to a velvety Ben Webster.
