With their love of old vinyl, valve amps, analog synths and odd time signatures, The Boot Lagoon sound like nothing else coming out of their age bracket. “The Canterbury muse is singing again!” enthused Gong legend (and instigator of the psychedelic ‘Canterbury scene’ of yore) Daevid Allen to a BBC TV interviewer after seeing them play a festival set in the summer of 2009.
You can hear echoes of those bands like Egg, Hatfield and the North, Soft Machine and Caravan in the sound of this adventurous four-piece, but there’s an urgency, intensity and just-plain-weirdness about their sound which sets them apart from mere ‘progressive rock’ revivalists.
