Once you hear the Crown Royals, you will not confuse these four sharp-suited troubadours of tune with other groups that have somewhat similar band names. Here's the idea: guitar, bass, drums, saxophone. That's it. What else do you need? Not a damned thing in this case. These instro mavens play the no-nonsense groovin' funk. The good stuff, unencumbered by words. The Crown Royals throw a lot of variety into the mix. They play with the precision of James Brown's band and the raunch of the Ohio Players. There's even a little be-bop jazz in their musical stew. Sometimes they jam a bit of a Link Wrayesque gronk, but always with the rolling funk underneath. To put it simply, this is good, instrumental party music. Ten tracks, no waiting.
