Born in Cologne, Engelberth began studying classical piano before moving to jazz piano under Professor Joerg Reiter at the state-lichen Academy of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim from 2004 to 2009. In addition, he was taught by John Taylor and Frank Hubert Nuss Chastenier. Since 2011 Engelberth has been a scholar of the Arts Foundation of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
He played in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of NY, from 2005-2008 and was a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO), headed by Peter Herbolzheimer, Marko Lackner and Bill Dobbins. In addition to his main project, the Volker Engelberth Trio, he works both as a duo with singer Juliet Pellegrini and in the band ‘mit4spiel5.’
He is also heard as a sideman in various jazz projects, currently, among other things; in the Sebastian Böhlen Sextet, with the Christoph Neuhaus Quintet, the band of singer Stephanie Neigel, and in a duo with Thomas Stabenow.
