Jazz music community with review and forums
Wang Wei (701-761) was a Tang Dynasty Chinese poet, musician, painter and statesman. He is best known for his quatrains depicting quiet scenes of water and mist, few details and little human presence. He affirms the world's beauty, while questioning it's ultimate reality. Wang Wei's poetry, in translation, formed the inspiration for this project.
As Emmanuel Baily is very interested in Chinese poetic language, he wished to move beyond mere curiosity and find out the extent to which the infinite subtleties of that language and the beauty of emerging images and movement could have an impact on his approach as a composer.
The result is an unusual instrumentation (cello) dedicated to creative and melodic developments who leads us to through jazz, contemporary and also classical music.
In December 2008, the band created "A new cartography" contemporary dance-music work with Yiphun Chiem(Cambodia-Belgium) and Wang Wei 4tet in "théatre des Doms" Avignon, France.
