'Indaba Is' captures a living culture of making music, one in which bands exist to birth musical concepts as opposed to being static monoliths.
Brownswood Recordings are thrilled to present this brand new project, recorded close to Johannesburg in 5 days earlier this year. ‘Indaba Is’ resuscitates a collective of South African black bands from a COVID-19-induced standstill; with newly composed music created by the country’s blooming new school jazz scene. Produced and managed by pianist Thandi Ntuli and ‘The Brother Moves On’ bandleader Siyabonga Mthembu as the Creative Directors of the project.
To celebrate the announcement of this project, we present the lead track by Bokani Dyer called ‘Ke Nako’ available to listen and download now across all digital streaming platforms on December 1st. The track ‘Ke Nako’ speaks of now being the time to unite in the name of true humanity. A call to build a true and just society.
Bokani Dyer is a multi-award winning Motswana-South African pianist, composer and producer. His recent career highlights include being part of the South African Songbook (2019) at the Lincoln Centre USA, London Jazz Festival (2015), headlining the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (2015) and an artistic residency at the Bird’s Eye jazz club in Basel, Switzerland (2014). Dyer has recorded four jazz albums including ‘Neo Native’ (2018) which won him Best Jazz Album in 2019. Dyer is currently working on various projects with his father, legendary musician Steve Dyer, under the Dyertribe label.
