Felipe Salles' Ugandan Suite, a visionary recording that brings together jazz, classical and African music (through its pioneering use of Ugandan musical idioms) is both a landmark album and a career highpoint for the brilliant Brazilian saxophonist and composer who conceived it. Making integrated use of such formidable players as the American saxophone icon David Liebman, the Brazilian master percussionist Rogerio Boccato, and the East African multi-instrumentalist Damascus Kafumbe, the Ugandan Suite is an authentic fusion project, one that seamlessly unites an international cast of exceptional and receptive musicians. The album, Salles' sixth as a leader, will be released May 20 on Tapestry Records, a subsidiary of the Capri label.
