With this opera, composer Jason Kao Hwang was comissioned for the inaugural production at the Asia Society Hall in 2001 in New York and his recording released by New World Records of the world premiere of Hwang's chamber opera The Floating Box, a story in Chinatown was featured in the January'06 edition of Opera News as one of the ten best full-length opera recordings of 2005, "its complexities untangled by conductor Juan Carlos Rivas" (ON).
