Song:?Throw It Away? (Abbey Lincoln, 1930-2010)
MD: This gem was written by singer, songwriter, poet and social activist Abbey Lincoln. It's an inspiring , simple yet honest song that's been tucked in my heart for many years. I finally was able to record it in 2009 as part of my CD " Coming True (Freeham Records). This piece continues to inspire me to this day... I never get tired of performing it and it never fails to move and touch listeners with its timeless, embracing beautiful message.
I've always believed that anything that comes out of our hearts, our voices... our instruments affect listeners in some good and positive ways... Music, poetry... jazz especially when performed live help establish a connection, a deep loving human connection that transcends color, cultural differences, religion and even political affiliations. In these trying times, artists and musicians should create even more passionately, intensely and purposefully for this beautiful art form can help change lives and minds. It can be an effective instrument for peace and compassion. And this may sound ambitious but it can also help build nations!
Lyrics:
Throw it away, throw it away...
Give your love , live your life
Each and everyday.
Keep your hand wide open
Let the sunshine through
Cuz' you can never lose a thing If it belongs to you...
