ORQUESTA SINFONICA NACIONAL DE COSTA RICA, Composed by Rafael Piccolotto de Lima, Conducted by Jeremy Fox. NOTES ABOUT THIS PIECE This Overture was composed as an opening piece for the concert "Bossa Nova Sinfonico Recordando a Antonio Carlos Jobim". It was conceived inspired by jobim's ochestral works and includes variations on motives from "Brasilia, Sinfonia da Alvorada" "Passarim" and "Canta, Canta Mais". The composer explains: "Jobim is famous for his bossa nova songs and arrangements, but he was also a great classical composer, very passionate about instrumental music, especially during his youth. Chopin, Ravel and Debussy are very present in his symphonic works, and, in a more subjective level, in many of his songs. He has beautiful works barely known by the public, even by bossa nova fans. So the idea for this overture was to evoke and pay a tribute to this other side of Jobim."
