Yup, this is the surprise music video for you...
I had so much fun making this video.
It was made in the beautifully damp moss-covered Redwood forest in Arcata, California and around the vistas of San Francisco.
This song is about the redwood trees. I wrote it several years ago after my first experience in Muir Woods.
This music of this album has transcended time, space, and sound along the years of creating it.
I have been astounded by the things that fell into place along with the things that required a lot of effort.
Hard work and synchronicity is usually how it happens.... and this album is no exception.
It's amazing how this music makes me feel. I have given it full spectrum from sparkling highs to a grounded deep sub bass. It resonates me into a space where all my worries and pain seems to melt away. I get so inspired to create music like this and I am thrilled for you to be able to have it and experience this for yourself super soon.
A little background:
In March 2015 I went hiking through Muir Woods
I remember that day well..
It started with a Gluten Free Smoked Salmon Waffle Stack here at Mill Valley's Equator.
I went to visit my friend Myra Melford, an awarded avant-garde jazz pianist and composer on UC Berkeley campus and discovered that she would be performing that night with world renowned tabla player and Bay Area resident, Zakir Hussain.
This free concert was a jazz ensemble masterclass and I would have to wait 6 hours. So of course, I waited. And while floating around the campus, I had my guitar and wrote this song "Canopy Trail".
There are many versions of this one song.
We even fashioned it in a prog math-rock trio in 2015!
Prismatic Mantis at the Kings County Saloon in Brooklyn June 15th, 2015 with Bryan Kopchak (drums) and David Anderson (bass).
The version on the album is quite different and special however...
The whole album is just so different from anything I've ever made. If you've been following the emails up to this point, you get it and you could inform anyone tuning in that it came from a yoga class live music performance, straight from the back of the amp and then cut into highlights that were spliced together with overdubs of the remaining "orchestra" I heard in my head. I want you to have the whole thing, the whole vision...
It's going to be amazing and I'm so glad you're here with me to take this journey. People have told me its the most hardcore ambient music they ever heard. Somehow, it encapsulates the softest and heaviest music in one musical experience.
And in 7 days, the album will drop, and it's all yours.
Until then, Ill be playing around the heights and vistas of San Francisco!
one love,
Mark
