Richard X Bennett reimagines the piano trio as a vehicle for his tuneful songs and weighty, poly-rhythmic, groove-centric piano explorations. He explains: “Each song begins as a bespoke piano pattern. The melodies evolve from these patterns, resulting in a multitude of ideas that exist together. I create modern music with a melodic and funky fabric and then tear it apart. Jazz, contemporary classical and Indian raga elements are threaded throughout.” Bennett is joined by drummer Julian Edmond, whose playing is characterized by its bounce and airy vibe, as well as Adam Armstrong, who adds a deep jazz sound on pizzicato bass. Richard X Bennett’s new album “RXB3” will be released by the rising British label Ubuntu Music on May 28.
