John Beasley + Magnus Lindgren present a concert experience “Bird Lives@100” to mark Charlie “Bird” Parker’s centennial, one of 20th century’s most original and imitated saxophonist and one of the inventors of Be-Bop. Parker’s birthday is August 29, 1920.
Beasley and Lindgren reimagine Parker’s music into 21st century orchestral arrangements for big band and strings. The repertoire will include Parker’s compositions and classics from the groundbreaking recordings "Bird With Strings" and "Charlie Parker with Strings".
Most people alive today have never seen “Bird” in concert nor on film because he died at the young age of 34 on March 12, 1955. Bird Lives @ 100 hopes to extend Bird’s legacy by introducing new and loyal listeners to his musical ingenuity through this evening-length concert, which will tour internationally.
