Good news for myriads of EST fans - even after the untimely death of the trio's leader, Esbjörn Svensson. The two other ex-members obviously switched the direction of their (solo) projects and the end result is that the EST concept is still alive and even further developed!
Berlin based piano-bass-drums trio [em] (no, not EM, just [em])is what EST could have become in the second decade of the new century. Formed around female bass-player Eva Kruse, this trio plays well-composed melodic, almost catchy modern jazz with obvious rock (or EST) influences, but their music is even more interesting - they added a big dose of avant garde jazz elements to it!
Their "Live" album is possibly their most free-spirited release; combining well-composed modern jazz, German classic precision, rock energy with some funky improvs, and all topped with catchy almost pop-like melodies.
If you liked EST's melodic rock-like songs, but would be glad to hear them sounding not so polished and flavored with more risk and adventure, then this album is what you need.
