If your looking to fill in the gaps of your Pharoah Sanders collection, this Impulse 2 on 1 edition is a welcome addition, Both Village of the Pharaohs and Wisdom through Music have been long unavailable on CD, Both albums are good, if not quite essential, Stacked up next to Karma or Black Unity for instance, they both seem like Sanders may have been running out of steam. The Astral Jazz element was starting to sound contrived, The vocal numbers on "Wisdom Through Music do nothing for me at all, Though there is enough on both albums to warrant the purchase, I do prefer Village of the Pharaohs over Wisdom Through Music, but both albums have way to many amateurish vocals on them for my tastes, had both albums been condensed down to one all instrumental album, that would have been better in my opinion, In the end, it is hard to deny, these sound like lesser efforts, stick with Karma and Black Unity, and buy this only if you want everything Sanders ever did.
