After former EST bassist Dan Berglund founded his new band Tonbruket in 2009, many EST fans waited what the music will be presented on their debut album. To be honest, after their debut was released in 2010 many of previous EST fans were seriously disappointed - Tonbruket's debut contained instrumental rock with very limited jazz flavor. But at least it was quite interesting music.
Band's second album, released just few days ago is real disappointment! If debut was released by "Dan Berglund's Tonbruket", second album is a just "Tonbruket" release. The difference isn't just formal - it is obvious that on second album ex-EST bassist became just one in team of musicians with strong pop-rock background.
Most obvious new leader is pianist Martin Hederos (Soundtrack Of Our Lives).Music is still pure instrumental, but is presented by mix of ambient, melodic electro-pop and surf-rock (guitarist Johan Lindström plays some funny retro surf-guitar solos). Album in all possibly isn't such bad, but has at least two big weak points - the music isn't focused at all and few interesting ideas are filled with lot of just back-up sounds and being mostly intelligent pop-album,some flirting with prog-rock sounds out of place.
No traces of jazz or related music could be find though. Average intelligent pop-rock album, hardly more...
