WAR — Galaxy (review)

The album is really the proof that War’s fortunes were indeed taking a downward turn (at least IMHo). Indeed the LA septet is now reduced to sounding much like Kool & The Gang or Earth Wind & Fire, but not having the same brass section in either case. One must realize as well that the disco craze was now the latest rage and many black funk groups happily indulged a few hits od super-simple disco to rival disco queens like Donna Summer and Claudia Barry (just to name a few), and even old Motown legends made a return to commercial success. Don’t get me wrong here, War still managed some integrity in their music and you won’t hear Dancing Shoes or I feel Love on their albums and despite an ambitious album title Galaxy, I think the members were not taking themselves too seriously as shown with the KKK member entering the ballroom in the back of their portrait gracing the sleeve.
